About this deal

I always think it's funny how parts look burned so quickly, but nothing of that will be visible after undercoating and painting!

After being happy with the shape and a lot of sanding, I started measuring out where all the details were going to be. Inbetween my pre-judging in the morning and the afternoon where I had to be on stage I had a photoshoot with RE:PLICA / MikoBura, who also has an account here: bura She is also a cosplayer and a huge Dragon Ball fan. People weren't necessarily impressed with the costume or act, but they said it was really nice to see an "old" design character, considering most cosplay competitions here nowadays are filled with people in big fantasy armors in likewise styles (not that there is anything wrong with that, but you see a lot of likewise outfits in a competition over here). The first version of the wings were functioning enough, but not that great, so I hope to improve them soon. She looked incredibly cute, was very though, but became all girly and fiddly when her crush was around!Normally I'm not the type for video-tutorials (I prefer pictures), but when a friend showed me his Youtube channel I was hooked!

I checked all the photographers from last years' competition and a few new ones, but almost everyone seemed to have skipped going to the solo competitions and I only found pictures from the duo and group competitions. Instead of following rules, I'm more the type to test out and adjust parts while I'm making them (only when I know what I'm doing, with the helmet above I used a tutorial). In general I don't make much pictures of that process, as it's incredibly boring to do and to watch people do! If I would re-do this part, I would have made the seamline less obvious, but I'm still quite happy with how this turned out!But on the other hand, my boyfriend was laughing like crazy too because of how in-character Roshi was, so we had lots of fun! Which I actually quite like, because it's just after the part where I throw the blade from my helmet. How long the drying process takes depends on the weather, but on a general (quite cold) day in the Netherlands this can take a full day. Because of the (quite unexpected, to be honest) positive reactions I got on my previous cosplay project blog blog/20041 , I decided to also make a blog about my Chi-Chi costume project!

Making the details for the chest plate made me sweat and curse quite a lot, because it was so small and fragile! View spoiler Hide spoiler I just re-measure myself every once in a while to see if I didn't get a lot fatter or thinner and see if the mannequin is still good. I remember struggling so much with it, while it's actually a joke compared to a lot of other costumes I've made. Seriously, industry-professionals having a Youtube channel that they use to show how they make their amazing stuff are the best! So the process you see here happens with at least 3 layers and most of them have to be undercoated in 2-4 different positions so everything can dry well.Because of all the waiting for drying I was going through, I decided to draw a face on the wighead (also because the wighead was already showing a lot of damages because of the heating shaping I did on it), so eh try to not pay too much attention to it.

For some reason I had the bright idea that I could use small pieces of foam to cover the gaps I had inbetween the detailing and the helmet itself.

I'm completely not used to cosplaying cute and shy characters, but what helped was that I was also not 100% comfortable in such a bare costume, even though I was wearing a bodysuit. Even though the cape and top are seperate parts, I decided that construction-wise it was better to cheat and put them together.
