About this deal

Just when you think you understand the sequence of events, Devlin challenges that idea, introducing new variables for you to consider. Self-assurance proves to be a hard destination to walk back to, and the misinformation and mob mentality he tries to navigate feel incredibly relevant to the world we are living in now. Malcolm Devlin gives us a chance to answer that question as we dive head first into his novella ‘And Then I Woke up. It’s a difficult one to explain, because it’s vague enough to be believable and somewhat plausible, but also you’re not really sure what to believe. Stories have a way of shaping our worldview, of allowing us to see things differently or from another perspective.

Sometimes I think to myself, what’s the scariest genre of Horror and I think; haunted houses, maybe exorcism or even creatures in the woods. What if you killed your husband, kids, friends, and that nosy neighbor believing they were the undead trying to eat you? The book is categorized as romantasy, with Violet pulled between the comforting love she feels from her childhood best friend, Dain Aetos, and the incendiary attraction she feels for family enemy Xaden Riorson. His first collection, You Will Grow Into Them was published by Unsung Stories in 2017 and shortlisted for the British Fantasy and Saboteur Awards.

The plots and subplots aren’t well-integrated, with the first half purely focused on Violet’s training, followed by a brief detour for romance, and then a final focus on outside threats.

Spence, who's still plagued by guilt, agrees to help Leila escape to find the loved ones she left behind. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Imagine that those of you who are seeing this, hearing this, quickly devise a plan to blow the place up, to stop the monsters or others or z-z-zombies or whatever from spreading their disease any further. Tordotcom always manages to publish the best novellas with the most striking covers, and as per usual, And Then I Woke Up written by Malcolm Devlin, is outstanding on both fronts. One of my favorite aspects is how Devlin plays with some more recognizable zombie horror tropes and blends them nearly seamlessly with psychological horror.
