About this deal
Please refer to your user manual or contact the support team on this page to confirm any specifications for your model. That means each unit has a single 5GHz radio that’s used both for exchanging data with connected clients and for forwarding traffic to and from other nodes. of coverage to your existing eero network and support speeds up to 100 Mbps for 10 or fewer connected devices in the 5 GHz band. Add a subscription to eero Plus to get additional online protection for your connected devices with parental controls, ad blocking, and more. Gets better over time: receive updates bringing the latest and greatest in Wi-Fi while helping to keep your network safe and secure.
One feature I particularly like is the option to receive a notification on your phone whenever a new client connects for the first time. You know how it is: you’ve just invested in a new router, perhaps a new internet service provider, and while the promised connection speeds have materialised, they just don’t quite stretch to the study or the bedroom.
Both eero Built-in capabilities extend eero’s wifi technology, including TrueMesh, to non-eero hardware. All your older devices with Wi-Fi 5 radios will still be able to connect to the Internet via the Eero 6, they’ll just do so at slower speeds, so refer to the Wi-Fi 5 table. You can turn on band steering, to encourage devices to connect to the 5GHz network rather than the slower 2.
One of these connects to your modem, while the other lets you connect a single wired client (or a switch if you want to connect more than one device). The square footage of the ground floor is 1000 sq feet so 1 eero should be enough, but there are brick walls between rooms so I've added the extra eero. GHz and 5 GHz bands (with 160 MHz channel support in 5 GHz) offer enough wifi bandwidth for 75+ connected devices. Again, keep the eero reasonably high, and err on placing it in the open 2/3rds between floor and ceiling and half way between the furthest room needing coverage and the gateway eero.In practice, I’ve found the best Wi-Fi 6 home routers and mesh systems send files down the line at around 60MB/sec at short range (equivalent to roughly 500Mbits/sec), falling to around half that speed when you move two or three rooms away. I wasn’t able to test out this particular feature in my review, as I don’t have any voice-activated hardware, Alexa or otherwise, at home.
Having several points of connection means you'll get a solid connection wherever you are in the home. It helps, too, that the Eero doesn’t support any form of WPS, so there’s no way to connect without the passphrase, although this can make connecting clients a bit fiddly. I’m using a Virgin Media Super Hub 3 (which I’ve set to modem mode when using the Eero 6) for comparison. Under each profile you can define one or more “scheduled pauses”, during which internet access is blocked.
Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Like with Google’s devices, the app can simply tell you if you need to move one of the discs nearer for it to work properly. You should take such figures with a big pinch of salt anyway, as they represent theoretical maximums.
